Tamarind Sour-Ball
Here’s the ‘pair’ to the Generic Ginger Candy a.k.a. Permen Jahe Sari Wangi. Same price, same brand, same producer, same salesman.
Ingredients listed include crystal sugar cane, natural tamarind and of course the ever so mysterious ‘other’.
This one tasted sweet and sour, as expected. I suspect this is made from tamarind pulp, likely leftovers from other production (tamarind juice, anyone?).
Of course, the finest part (to be overrating) of this confection is that it melts in your mouth. Of course, after the melting part you still have to deal with a bunch of sugar crystal.
And, there’s the added bonus of some occasional pieces of tamarind seed and fiber. Yummm!
The old saying is that tamarind juice is good for diet. Likely that’s because anything sour is good for diet and there’s much fibre content to help with the ‘full’ sensation. But, the sugar here is likely to ruin any diet.
